The second meeting of the Steering Committee for the Pacific Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (PCREEE) Steering Committee (SC) was held on 12th December 2017 together with the 8th Meeting of the Pacific Energy Advisory Group and the Workshop on Accelerating Renewable Energy Deployment in Small Island Developing States from the 11th – 15th December 2017 at the Novotel, Suva, Fiji.

Provided is the compilation of the meeting minutes and its accompanying annexes.

This Regional Synthesis Report summarises progress made towards the implementation of the two regional frameworks:
• The Pacific Disaster Risk Reduction and Disaster Management Framework for Action 2005–2016 (RFA)
• The Pacific Islands Framework for Action on Climate Change 2006–2016 (PIFACC)

Executive Summary - Climate change exacerbates the magnitude and impacts of climate variability and some natural hazards. The existence of some Pacific Island countries (PICs) is threatened by climate change. Pacific Island countries and territories (PICTs) are highly exposed to a range of natural hazards of hydro-meteorological origin (such as cyclones, droughts, landslides and floods) and geological origin (including volcanic eruptions, earthquakes and tsunamis).

This compendium showcases programmes and projects from across the Pacific region that address climate change and disaster risks, through climate change adaptation (CCA), disaster risk management (DRM) and/or greenhouse gas emissions reduction.

These forty case studies cover different topics across Pacific Island countries and territories (PICTs) and showcase significant work undertaken by the region to address climate and disaster-related challenges and to build resilience.

Executive summary: Pollution and the growing volumes of solid and hazardous wastes are major threats to the environments and sustainable development of the Pacific Islands. Globalisation is accelerating the transition of Pacific communities towards consumer economies, with increasing urbanisation, migration and participation in international trade. This is resulting in an escalation in solid and liquid wastes, more shipping and land transport and more infrastructure and industry throughout the region, which increase the risk of coastal and marine pollution.

Executive summary: Cleaner Pacific 2025: Pacific Regional Waste and Pollution Management Strategy 2016–2025 is a comprehensive long-term strategy for integrated sustainable waste management and pollution prevention and control in the Pacific islands region until 2025. It provides a strategic management framework to address

Executive Summary: This is the Pacific Islands region’s Strategy for solid waste management, setting the strategic direction for the period 2010-2015. It is supported by a high-level implementation plan which sets out the key actions that will be taken to deliver the vision of the strategy.

The inaugural meeting of the Steering Committee (SC) of the Pacific Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (PCREEE) was held on 25th April 2017 during the Third Pacific Regional Energy and Transport Ministers’ Meeting  at the Tanoa International Dateline Hotel, Nuku’alofa, Tonga.
