VIRTUAL CONSULTATION ON THE REGIONAL E-MOBILITY POLICY AND PROGRAMME

4 June 2020 / Zoom

The Pacific Community cordially invites you to the upcoming consultation to validate the regional e-mobility programme and policy on 4 June 2020.

To better harness emerging electric vehicle (EV) opportunities, the Fourth Pacific Regional Energy and Transport Ministers’ Meeting, held from 18 to 20 September 2019, in Apia, Samoa, requested SPC/PCREEE, UNIDO and SIDS DOCK to assist Pacific island nations in the development of a regional policy and program on electric vehicles.

Over the past months, UNIDO and PCREEE developed a technical report, which identifies feasible and viable e-mobility options for Pacific islands. Based on the findings, a regional policy document with targets by 2030 and 2050 was developed. The document includes thirty-eight (38) policy actions directed to overcome existing barriers.

Based on the technical report and policy documents, a regional e-mobility programme was drafted. The proposed programme foresees the creation of a Pacific e-mobility hub, which will advise Governments and create a space for joint learning and equal progress. The programme will address existing barriers by promoting regional interventions in the areas of policy and regulation, knowledge management, qualification/certification, as well as the promotion of investment, entrepreneurship and innovation. The programme will be implemented by involving a broad range of national and international partners.

The programme also promotes SIDS-SIDS cooperation and exchange on integrated e-mobility and renewable energy power systems under the umbrella of the Global Network of Regional Sustainable Energy Centres (www.gn-sec.net). Currently the CCREEE is developing a similar regional EV framework for the Caribbean Community (www.ccreee.org).

The consultation is aimed at providing an opportunity for SPC member countries [energy, transport, climate change], development partners, industry and stakeholders to validate and to provide comments and inputs to the draft e-mobility policy and programme. Both documents were based on a Technical Background Paper - Options for Integrated Electric Mobility and Renewable Power Markets in the Pacific Island Countries and Territories (PICT). The 3 documents can be accessed here - https://www.pcreee.org/event/online-validation-regional-e-mobility-policy-and-program-pacific-islands
